Alden Bass
Ph.D. Historical Theology
I am a first year Presidential Fellow, and am currently preparing to begin doctoral work in the Historical Theology Program. I completed my undergraduate education at Yale University, majoring in Religious Studies. I also finished an M.T.S. at Vanderbilt Divinity School, and just returned from a year abroad in El Zamorano, Honduras, where my wife and I worked with street children.
I came to historical theology program at Saint Louis University because the Jesuit tradition provides a common end toward which diverse disciplines and peoples can work. Although my academic interest is the relationship between faith and practice in Augustine's North Africa, I hope to use my historical training as a means of opening the imagination in order to reexamine contemporary issues, such as poverty in Central America.
