Carrie Brown
MSR, Ph.D., Experimental Psychology
"I am a second-year graduate student in the Ph.D. Experimental (Developmental concentration) Psychology program. I received my B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Spanish from Emmanuel College in Boston, Massachusetts, and my M.A. in General Psychology from Boston University. After receiving my M.A. in 2004, I spent one year teaching courses at two Connecticut community colleges, and the next year teaching courses at Emmanuel College. My teaching experience affirmed my passion for education and academia, and my desire to continue my own education by obtaining a Ph.D.
My research experiences have focused primarily on American Indian adolescents, adults, and elders, with topics related to identity, physical and mental health, and well-being. In the future, I would like to conduct research on cross-cultural couples/families and individuals of mixed ancestry. As a member of an American Indian tribe, I have a deep pride in my culture and great love for my New England family. I hope to make my tribe proud through my accomplishments. When applying to graduate schools, SLU was most easily my first choice. I was drawn to the location and atmosphere of the city, as well as the knowledge and warmth of the women of the Experimental faculty. I know that I will be supported, encouraged, and challenged during my time at SLU. I look forward to spending my next years here, and to establishing lasting friendships with my future colleagues."
