The Graduate School

Jazmine Williams
M.A., Communication

My name is Jazmine Williams and I am originally from Detroit, Michigan. I completed my undergraduate work at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. During my five years at Grand Valley State University I was heavily involved in diversity issues and awareness groups. Diversity issues are a passion of mine which is one of the reasons I choose Saint Louis University. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Communication with a minor in sociology and looked for a graduate program that could combine the two. The Communication Masters Program at Saint Louis University proved to be a fit, allowing me to intertwine both my interest in communication and diversity issues. I found a communication department full of knowledgeable faculty doing research in my area of interest. I was so impressed with the faculty and after a brief visit, I fell in love with SLU and I am happy to be here today.

My research interests span the spectrum of communication, sociology and diversity topics. I am particularly interested in intercultural communication, intersections of race and class in the media and feminist film theory. I am very excited about the opportunity to attend Saint Louis University as well as being a diversity fellow. I hope to include my interest in diversity issues within my participation as a fellow.
