Continuing Support and Resources for Students

03/26/2020

Dear Students,

As we look ahead to resuming classes remotely/online (not on campus) on Monday, March 23, I want to be sure you know the services and support resources you have always relied on continue to be available to you.

Below, I provide information about resources available for our students who will be studying at a distance and for those who will continue to live on campus. (For those who will continue to live on campus, rest assured that you’ll have access to campus dining, Simon Recreation Center, Pius Library, etc.) You’ll see that the two lists are almost identical. That’s because we’re working hard to ensure that the staff and the resources you rely on are available to you by phone, email, Zoom, and other means of connection.

I also want to offer a personal note to each of you. This is a very hard time. The decisions the University has had to make have been extremely difficult, as our priority to minimize the disruption of students’ academic experience is at direct odds with our priority to protect our community’s health and well-being. I want you to know that your Saint Louis University family – the staff you encounter everyday in dining facilities and residence halls, Campus Ministry, the Dean of Students Office, the Student Involvement Center, the University Counseling Center, Campus Recreation and Wellness, the Student Health Center, the Center for Service and Community Engagement, the Office of Student Responsibility and Community Standards, Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction, Writing Services, Disability Services, in the BSC and in the mailroom and bookstore – is as as heartbroken as you are over this unexpected disruption.

Your absence on campus is a source of grief for us, and we know the same is true for all of you. We are already missing your vibrant energy, your passion for service, and your voices over spring break, and we will continue to miss those traits in the weeks to come.

But we are still here for you – and we will continue to be. You are why many of us got into higher education. You are our family. The strength of the SLU community is the people and the relationships we build with them, and no amount of distance can separate us. Connecting with us or engaging with virtual programs by phone or through Zoom isn’t the same as being here in person, but we are committed to staying connected to you

With heartfelt sadness, and also with eager anticipation for your return,

Debie (on behalf of the entire Student Development Team)

Debra Rudder Lohe, Ph.D. (she/her/hers)
Interim Vice President for Student Development

Services and Support Resources - for Students at a Distance

For students who will be completing coursework from a distance, the following resources will continue to be open and available to you remotely, through Zoom, email, phone, etc. We are exploring virtual possibilities for many of these resources, and students should continue to stay connected with these offices as virtual supplements are implemented. If you aren’t sure which resource you need, you can always start with the Dean of Students Office.
