The Graduate Program in History at Saint Louis University is one of the oldest in the country, granting its first Ph.D. in 1919. Today we continue that tradition of excellence in graduate education, training students in a variety of historical fields. History Application Review Process
A standing graduate applicant review committee meets just after the expiration of the application deadline. By the beginning of March, the committee has made its applicant selections based upon committee recommendations.

Credit Hours/Coursework: Twenty-seven (27) hours of course work beyond the MA is required; thirty-six hours of course work if pursuing the combined MA-Ph.D. A minimum of twelve (12) hours in the primary field and six (6) hours in the secondary field is required. For U.S. history students, competency in one foreign language is required. For medieval and early modern European history students, two languages are required, one of which must be Latin. It is understood that in all fields of study advisors can require additional languages if they are pertinent to the student's research agenda. | History Graduate Courses

Program Highlights: The faculty of the history department have published 70 books and hundreds of articles and delivered conference papers across the world from Chile to China.
