Applying to the University Honors Program

The University Honors Program welcomes students from all majors to apply for admission. While most students join as first-year students, current SLU students and transfer students are also invited to apply.

Beyond minimum GPAs and test scores, the Saint Louis University Honors Program seeks students who are intellectually curious and who seek opportunities to take rigorous coursework and conduct original research.  The Program considers the following when evaluating applicants:

  • Extraordinary academic performance in challenging courses
  • Clear articulation of the reasons for seeking admission into the honors program and a compelling description of potential contributions to the program
  • Distinctive, diverse and extensive leadership experience
  • Well-rounded involvement with school or community

Regardless of student type, all students are required to answer the following question as their personal statement:

SLU Honors students develop their ability to ask and answer questions effectively through rigorous coursework. As a Jesuit Honors Program, we also provide opportunities for critical reflection and personal exploration. With this in mind, identify a question that you would like to answer for or about yourself by the end of your college career. Why is that particular question important to you?

Look at the rubric used to evaluate traditional (i.e. high school) and current undergraduate applicants for admission to the University Honors Program for more information. Submit letters of recommendation directly to the University Honors Program. Applications will not be reviewed until all materials have been submitted.

If you have a question about the process, contact an honors admission counselor at 314-977-3951.
