Advising and Registration for Current Honors Students
As a part of Saint Louis University's Integrated Advising and Mentoring System, Honors advisors provide specialized secondary advising for all students in the University Honors Program throughout their undergraduate careers.
Honors advisors work with primary advisors in the College of Arts and Sciences; College for Public Health and Social Justice, John Cook School of Business; School of Education; Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology; Medical Center Advising (for Doisy College of Health Sciences and the School of Nursing); and Major Exploration to provide support for Honors students. Honors advisors also work closely with faculty mentors and staff from other programs — such as Pre-Health and Pre-Law Studies and the Micah Program — as well as academic departments to support Honors students in these programs.
Scheduling an Appointment
You can schedule an appointment with your Honors advisor online through mySLU, by contacting the University Honors Program at 314-977-3951 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday or by stopping by the University Honors Program office in Verhaegen Hall, Room 119.
If you are making an appointment through mySLU, follow these steps:
- Log in to your mySLU account
- Open your Tools page
- Click on the SLU Appointments icon
- Select "Specialized Academic Advising"
- Select "Honors Program"
- Follow the prompts to select desired date and time
The University Honors Program also has walk-in advising hours during the fall and spring semesters, which are always posted in the weekly newsletter. Additional advising questions can be directed to email@example.com.
What Should You Ask Your Honors Advisor?
Although many academic and curriculum questions should be directed to your primary advisor, you will want to speak with your Honors advisor about your status in the University Honors Program and your progress towards completing it.
The Honors Academic Advisor is also available to discuss course selection, undergraduate research and thesis options, post-graduation plans, and distinguished scholarship opportunities.
Priority Registration as an Honors Student
Honors students receive priority registration, which means you are permitted to register for courses one business day before registration officially opens. You can find specific registration dates on the Office of the University Registrar's website. Additionally, your Honors advisor can assist you with course registration if you have any problems.
You can prepare for each semester by participating in the group advising sessions hosted by the University Honors Program prior to each semester. This is a casual opportunity to connect with fellow Honors students and to talk with advisors about the upcoming semester.
You are also strongly encouraged to meet individually with your Honors advisor to discuss your Honors curriculum plan and course options for the upcoming semester. Honors advisors are not able to provide registration PINs, so you must also meet with your primary advisor.
Cross-listed Honors classes enable you to explore the courses in more depth than you would otherwise.
