Resident Advisor Frequently Asked Questions
Please refer to the list below for Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Resident Advisor (RA) application process. If you do not see your question asked and answered below, please contact your RA or a Housing and Residence Life Professional Staff Member.
What if I am studying abroad during spring 2015. Can I still be considered for a position for the 2015-2016 academic year?
Yes. Students studying abroad have until the regular application deadline (November 21st) , and will be interviewed during our regular process in December.
Students will be notified if they have been hired in February 2015 with all other applicants.
What if I am studying abroad during Fall Semester 2014. Can I still be considered for a position?
Students studying abroad in the fall may be considered for a Mid-Year Hire position for Spring 2015. The deadline for the Mid-Year application is November 21st.
When will I be contacted regarding the individual interview?
All applicants will be contacted regarding the individual interview once the application has closed.
What if I cannot attend the individual interview?
The individual interview is a mandatory component of our process.
In the event you cannot attend the individual interview for an unforeseen emergency or academic conflict, please contact Richard Marks (email@example.com) as soon as possible. A make-up day may be available for you.
However, please note that failure to complete the individual interview will prevent you from being considered for the RA position at this time.
If I apply for a Mid-Year position and am not hired, will I still be considered for the 2015-2016 academic year position?
Yes. Although, we have a large number of applicants apply each year for a Mid-Year Hire position, we have very few openings.
If you are not hired as a Mid-Year Resident Advisor, your application materials will be carried over and you will be considered for a 2015-2016 academic year position. You will not have to re-interview.
What if I apply and then change my mind and decide I am no longer interested in being considered for a position?
Applicants who decide to withdraw from the process at any time are strongly encouraged to the Department of Housing and Residence Life to remove themselves from the process.
What should I expect during the Individual Interview?
Individual interviews will last approximately 30 minutes. Please dress in business casual attire and show up at least 10 minutes prior to your interview time. Individual interviews will take place on Saturday, December 6th, 2014.
You will be interviewed by 1 professional staff member and 2-3 current student staff members. The individual interview provides us an opportunity to get to know you better, discuss your interest in the position, skill set, and find out your interest in specific buildings or learning communities.
When does the RA position start?
Students selected for a Mid-Year position will be required to be back on campus prior to the start of the spring 2014 semester for training.
Students selected for a 2015-2016 academic year position will be required to attend an orientation event in April and be available to be back on campus for training in early August.
