Salary Surveys

Saint Louis University is committed to a compensation philosophy that provides fairness, internal equity, and competitive pay rates for the purpose of attracting and retaining talented people.

To ensure the competitiveness of staff salaries and the University's ability to recruit new staff, survey data is gathered from local, regional, and national sources. Local compensation data is used for those jobs for which recruitment and retention is affected by local labor market conditions. Regional data is gathered for those jobs for which we must compete with other employers in the Midwest region to attract qualified applicants and retain current staff. National data is gathered for those jobs for which recruitment and retention is affected by compensation nationwide.

Our salary survey database is composed of information gathered from participation in over 30 surveys conducted by third party professional associations and private agencies. This method assures the privacy of our salary information and that of other participating institutions. These surveys allow us to compare salary data with similar doctoral institutions, matching us in budget size and student population.

The information gathered through the use of salary surveys ensures our external salary competitiveness and provides the University with data to compare the current pay level of University staff to similar jobs in the marketplace.
