Admission to the Integrated and Applied Sciences
(IAS) Program is on a rolling basis. However, international (non-US) applicants must submit their complete application package by a deadline of February 1 of the year they wish to commence their studies. Students should have a
bachelors or masters degree in an area appropriate for the proposed
interdisciplinary study. All interested students must submit
an application to the
Graduate
School. The application will include:
Once the Graduate School receives all of the application
materials, they forward the application materials to the Integrated
and Applied Sciences (IAS) Program Director. The Director
forwards the application to the proposed IAS faculty mentor(s)
for confirmation of a funding mechanism for supporting the
student. If funding is sufficient, the IAS Program Director
forwards the application to the IAS Administrative Committee
for review. All graduate students in the IAS program
are supported on external funds provided by the mentor(s).
The IAS Administrative Committee will ensure that the applicant
possesses a minimum of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited,
recognized college or university in a discipline relevant
to the research of the IAS faculty mentor, along with a passing
score on the TOEFL. The IAS Administrative Committee ensures
that the applicant’s previous academic record indicates
the ability needed to pursue advanced studies (typically a
GPA of at least 2.7/4.0). The IAS Administrative Committee
makes an admissions recommendation to the Graduate School,
but the Graduate School is responsible for making the final
decision and communicating that decision to both IAS Program
Director and the applicant.
Students entering the Chemistry track with a BA or BS undergraduate degree are admitted as Chemistry MS(R) students and may petition to formally enter the PhD program upon successful completion of the MS(R) degree usually within the first two years of the program. This does not necessarily add further time to the PhD matriculation.
