General Internal Medicine offers appointments for acute, non-emergent medical conditions through the Acute Care Service. This service operates in Room 208 of the Doctors Office Building Monday through Friday. Patient appointments are scheduled from 8:40 am through noon and from 1-4 pm.
The majority of patients are seen by same-day appointment. Their illnesses are generally acute and self-limited. Most patients cared for are already in the practice of the faculty and residents of the Division of General Internal Medicine. Others are patients of faculty in the School of Medicine. For many patients this offers an entry into the SLUCare practice when they have an acute medical illness.
Point of care testing services are available. These include urinalysis, pregnancy testing, strep, rapid strep testing, electrocardiograms and microscopic examination of specimens. X-rays are available in the Doctors Office Building. Additional laboratory testing is available through the Doctors Office Building laboratory. Physicians and nurses in the Acute Care Service follow-up on the results of all ordered tests.
