One of the major's requirements is ISTD 491 Internship in International Studies (3 credit hours).
The Center for International Studies requires an internship as part of the curriculum to enhance a student's academic career with practical experience. It serves as a bridge to both future study and employment and ideally should enhance the students' primary major. The internship site may be local, but it needs to be an off-campus experience. It must have a fundamentally international component as well. Students gain a deeper understanding of global perspectives through their internships and bring this knowledge back to SLU. Students are encouraged to source their own internship site, review the Center for International Studies Internship Policies, located at this link. It is imperative to review the requirements on the Internship Agreement Form and have the internship approved by an international studies advisor prior to starting the internship.
