1.  How can I see what my students see when they look at my Blackboard Learn course? (Or, What is Student Preview mode?)

There is a tool in Blackboard called "Student Preview" which allows you to enroll yourself as a Preview Student in the course by clicking on the Student Preview icon.

To access Student Preview, click the Student Preview icon (which looks like an eye) on the upper right side of the Blackboard page.

Click here for more information about the Student Preview tool from the Blackboard Help website.

3.  How do archive (backup) my course?

Frequent backups of your Blackboard Learn course are highly recommended, especially after doing a great deal of content work or grading. The archive of the course will be how you recover from a disaster. Even though disasters are rare, when they happen they are devastating and having a archive of your course is insurance against starting the course from scratch and recovering student work and grades.

Steps:

  1. Go to the Control Panel on the lower left side of the course page.

  2. Click Packages and Utilities. The Packages and Utilities drop down menu will appear.

  3. Click Export/Archive Course link. The Export/Archive Course page will appear.

  4. Click the Archive Course button at the top of the page. The Archive Course page will appear.

  5. In the Select Copy Options section, check the box to the left of Include Grade Center History if desired. Usually you will only do this at the end of a term.

  6. Click the Submit button on the upper or lower right side of the page.

  7. A green banner will appear at the top of the page which says: "Success: This action has been queued. An email will be sent when the process is complete."

  8. You will receive an email at your @slu.edu account when the backup is complete

  9. Go back to the Export/Archive Course page.

  • The only way to print these pages is to click the PrtScn button on your computer to take a screen shot. Open the screen shot on the program of your choice (Notepad, Paint, WordPad, MS Word, etc.) and print it out.  You can also download the Grade Center to a spreadsheet.  See the FAQs on the Grade Center for more information.)
