Online Course Evaluations - Information for Faculty

The SurveyDIG Online Course Evaluation System, or SurveyDIG, is the University's online course evaluation tool. SurveyDIG provides a secure form which enables students to submit an anonymous course evaluation via a link on their schedule in Banner Self-Service.

For faculty in departments that use SurveyDIG to conduct online course evaluations, follow the links to the left for information on how to access course evaluation status information and, after grades have been submitted, the course evaluation results.

1. How do I know if my department is using the SurveyDIG Online Course Evaluation System?

Speak with your department chair or administrator to determine if your department will use the online course evaluation form. Each term, the department chair must select which courses in their department will use the online evaluation form. Students will see the link to the online course evaluation form only for those courses that are selected for the current term.

2. My department is using SurveyDIG, how do I know if my courses are using the online evaluation form?

For courses that are using the SurveyDIG online evaluation form, a link will display on the Faculty Detail Schedule page in Banner Self-Service for the Course Evaluation Status. Please review the Course Evaluation Status page for more information.

The primary instructors will also receive an automatic e-mail notification one week prior to the start of the evaluation period. The e-mail includes the course name and number of each course using the online evaluation form, the evaluation period for each course, and links to the online instructions for both students and faculty. The primary instructor will receive additional reminder e-mails on the start date of the evaluation period and a few days prior to the end of the evaluation period.

3. What is the evaluation period for my course?

In general, the evaluation period is based on the start of finals week. The date range of the evaluation period controls when the online course evaluation link is available to students registered for the course. The course evaluation period begins 11 days prior to the start of final exams.

For example, for most Spring 2012 courses, the evaluation period begins April 28, 2012 at 12:00 a.m. and concludes on May 8, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. CST.

The Course Evaluation Status page in Banner Self-Service displays the evaluation period and other useful information to faculty. Please review the Course Evaluation Status page for more information.

Please note: Some schools require a different method to calculate the evaluation period due to their academic calendar. The Course Evaluation Status page will reflect the proper evaluation period for your specific school.

4. How are students notified about the online course evaluation form?

Students will receive an automatic e-mail notification on the start date of the evaluation period. The e-mail includes: a list of the courses that the student is registered in that are using the online evaluation form, the deadline for submitting the evaluation, and a link to the instructions for accessing the online evaluation form. If the student has not completed the evaluation for one or more of their courses, a reminder e-mail will automatically be sent a few days prior to the end of the evaluation period.

The evaluation period for each course is displayed for students on the Student Schedule Detail page in Banner Self-Service. Students can only submit the evaluation form once during the evaluation period.

Speak with your department chair to discuss what other methods of communication your department is using to explain the online course evaluation process to your students.

5. How can I access the results of the online course evaluations?

The Course Evaluation Report is available via a link on the Faculty Detail Schedule page in Banner Self-Service. The evaluation report is available after the due date for final grades. The Course Evaluation Status page will display the date the the evaluation report will be available for each of your courses.

Please note: The course evaluation report is not available for every course. The Course Evaluation Status page will indicate if the evaluation report is not available for your specific department or course.
