Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning,
research, health care, and service is seeking applicants for a tenure track, 9-month faculty appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and Family Therapy. The appointment would begin January, 2010, or as soon as possible.
The Department of Counseling and Family Therapy is a unit in the College of Education
and Public Service. The department offers M.A. majors in Family Therapy and
Counseling (concentrations in Human Development Counseling and School Counseling), a Ph.D. in Family Therapy (accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education), and a Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Responsibilities and Duties: The successful applicant will teach courses in both the
counseling and family therapy programs and provide clinical supervision of master’s and
doctoral students, with primary responsibility in the counseling programs. Particular
emphasis will be placed on establishing or continuing a program of research and
scholarly activity that is supported by external grants or contracts. The successful
candidate will be expected to develop and foster training, research, and service
relationships with community entities and related university departments and programs.
Minimum Qualifications: Qualified individuals should possess a doctoral degree in
counseling, marriage and family therapy, or a related discipline. They must be eligible for licensure as an LPC or LMFT in the State of Missouri and be an NBCC Approved
Clinical Supervisor or an AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Candidate.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience and training in school counseling and community
counseling is preferred. A clearly emerging or established program of research with a
demonstrated ability to obtain external funding is preferred. Evidence of potential to
contribute to one or more of the following departmental foci is preferred: underserved,
diverse, minority or immigrant and refugee populations; medical family therapy and
collaborative health care; divorce and remarriage; adoption and foster care; aging
families; couple and family functioning.
