Medical Technologist
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: Under general direction, performs clinical testing and
complex analysis of biological materials and statistical analyses of data; ensures
appropriate chain-of custody handling for analysis and compliance with regulatory
guidelines; testifies in legal proceedings; performs quality control testing and
maintenance of equipment; maintains records.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include any and/or all of the following:
- Performs analysis of biological materials including post mortem with frequent critical
turnaround; examines, logs, transcribes, verifies results and prepares reports on results
of specimen analysis; oversees chain of custody for analysis and tracking of specimens;
develops and/or implements protocols for infectious specimens; testifies in legal
proceedings to present and explain test results.
- Completes billing forms for charges; assists in the development of test menus for
marketing and development of new lab business.
- Maintains, troubleshoots, resolves issues with assays; develops and explains related
procedures.
- Performs quality control testing of equipment; performs and documents instrument
standardization; troubleshoots and performs minor repairs of equipment; documents
equipment operation and maintenance; ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Responsible for disposal of chemical and biohazardous materials; monitors and orders
laboratory supplies; maintains and documents safety records; adheres to storage
procedures.
- Trains and assists with supervision of staff.
- Attends and participates in conferences, conventions, and workshops; performs other
duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience equivalent to:
Bachelors degree; supplemented with three (3) years of related experience.
American Society of Clinical Pathologists certification is preferred.
