Outstanding Student in a Learning Community Award
The purpose of the Outstanding Student in a Learning Community award is to recognize and encourage outstanding achievement by students in the learning communities. The award provides an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to nominate students that have displayed exemplary leadership and service in their learning community. The selected student will be one that has set positive examples for students and supported the mission and goals of the learning community as well as the university.
Students who are nominated should have demonstrated excellence in one or all of the following areas:
- Community Participation - actively participates in learning community programs and events; encourages other members to participate and be involved in the community.
- Programming - helps support programs and assists in planning activities for the learning community.
- Community Building - encourages a positive, inclusive community and integrates all members; looks for ways to improve communication and dialogue in the community.
- Interpersonal Interaction - develops relationships that are mutually beneficial and respects all members.
- Leadership - looks for ways to improve the community and helps others in their development; shares information about resources and encourages others to get involved on campus.
- Academic Excellence - role models academic excellence through class attendance, developing study groups, helping other members, and striving for academic excellence in their own work.
- Mentoring - supports other community members in their pursuits and goals; actively listens and strives to be a man or women for and with others.
- Collaboration - looks for ways to work with others in the community and on campus to help build a stronger community.
The Nomination Process
Faculty, staff, or students may submit letters of nomination for the Outstanding Student in a Learning Community Award. Nomination letters are due to Susan Fanale in BSC 319 or via email to email@example.com. Nominations for the 2013 award will be due in March or April 2013.
Please include the following information in the letter:
• Name of the Student
• Learning Community Name
• Classification Level (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior)
• Why the student is deserving of the award based on the description of the award.
Nomination letters are reviewed by the Learning Community Coordinator, Director for Student Involvement Center, Associate Director for Residence Education, and other representatives from the campus Learning Community Task Force. One student will be selected for the Outstanding Student in a Learning Community Award.
The award will be presented at the Leadership and Service Awards ceremony. The ceremony will take place in April 2013 in the Wool Ballrooms of the Busch Student Center.
