Overview
  • PubMed is a database that provides access to over 22 million citation records with abstracts for published articles from over 5600 biomedical journals. It was developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH)

  • PubMed may be searched via this search interface that was developed by NCBI to search a number of their databases, including PubMed (see the drop down box list that includes PubMed).

  • PubMed does not contain full-text articles but, in some cases, permits you to link to them from their corresponding PubMed citation record displays.

  • PubMed is freely available to anyone with Internet access. However, to link from PubMed citation records to full-text articles, you must use the PubMed link on the right side of the SLU Medical Center Library(MCL) home page ( http://www.slu.edu/libraries/hsc/index.html) under the Quick Links heading .

  • PubMed includes the database MEDLINE, a specific set of citation records to older articles that are labeled OLDMEDLINE, a citation record subset labeled In Process and another labeled Publisher Supplied.

  • PubMed is updated Tuesday thru Saturday with new citation records.
