How to Find a Book
Ask a Librarian

  1. If you already know the book title.
    2.
    • Click the Library Catalog link on the left-hand side of this page.
    • In the "Quick Search" box, choose "SLU-HSC Catalog" (default configuration), and "Title" (default configuration), Type the title of the book in the search box, then press "Search" button.
  2. If you want to search the MCL collection by subject or keyword:

    • Click the Library Catalog link on the left-hand side of this page.
    • Click the Medical Center Library Catalog link.
    • Click Advanced Search in the center of the page.
    • Type the search term(s) in the search box. You may choose a field from the drop-down menu of the search box or leave it as "Any Field".

    • You can also limit your search by choosing these limit options.
      • In "Specific Library Location", choose SLU-HSC to find holdings in the HSC Library.
      • You can limit by "language" to narrow your search to those books written in that language by choosing the drop-down menu "Language of Work:".
      • Choose "Books" from the drop-down menu in the "Material Format:"
      • If you know all or part of the publisher’s name, you can enter the terms in the "Publisher Name Keywords" field.

    • Click "Submit".
  3. If you know the title of the book but the HSC Library does not own the book (How to check if other SLU libraries own the book):

    • Click the Library Catalog link on the left-hand side of this page.
    • Click the Saint Louis University Libraries Catalog link.
    • Choose "Title" from the drop-down menu on the left of the search box. Choose "View Entire Collection " from the Library drop-down menu at the far right of the search box.
    • Type the title of the book in the search box, then press the "Search" button.
    • You can then make a book request through the Saint Louis University Libraries Catalog and have it sent to the HSC Library for pick-up.
  4. If no SLU library owns the book you want (How to check if other libraries in the MOBIUS system own the book):

    • Click the Library Catalog link on the left-hand side of this page.
    • Click the MOBIUS Catalog link.
    • Click the Title link.
    • Type the title of the book in the search box, then press the "Submit Search" button.
    • You can then make a book request through the MOBIUS Catalog System and have it sent to the HSC Library for pick-up.
  5. If no SLU or MOBIUS library owns the book you want (How to make an Interlibrary Loan request):

    • Click the Interlibrary Loan link on the left-hand side of this page.
    • Make a book request through Interlibrary Loan.

Please note the following steps when making a request for a book:
  • If a book is owned by the Medical Center Library or another SLU library, you will want to borrow or request the local SLU copy.
  • If a book is not owned by any SLU Library but owned by other libraries in the MERLIN system, you will want to make your request to another MERLIN library.
  • If a book is not owned by a SLU or other MERLIN library, check the MOBIUS catalog system. If MOBIUS owns the book you want, you can make a book request through MOBIUS. Please keep in mind that you cannot request a book owned in MERLIN from the MOBIUS system.
  • If MOBIUS does not own the book you want, you can request it through Interlibrary Loan.
