Archives Showcases the Photograph as Document and as Art

The Saint Louis University Archives is highlighting part of its collection of books that explores the photograph as document and as art. The photograph as reportorial document has been used to preserve the beauty of the landscape, express the dynamism of human personality, and to combat social injustice. But the photograph is also an art form, transforming the look of objective reality into a unique expression of the imagination of both photographer and audience. The Archives houses a collection of books on photography that presents the outlines of the world around us while challenging us to interpret these outlines in the most personal way.
