The Technical Services Department of the library is
responsible for the acquisition of materials, the organization and bibliographic control
of materials, physical processing, and collection maintenance. At Pius Library the
department is divided into three units, Serials / Acquisitions, Catalog, and Automation.

The Automation Unit is responsible for planning, designing, implementing and maintaining
library computing systems, including the database network, library instruction classrooms,
media/computer rooms, as well as public/staff workstations and terminals throughout the
library. Automation maintains diversified systems, including UNIX, Microsoft XP, and Novell
networks, to accommodate different service requirements. As more library resources become
available through the Internet, the unit also supports remote access to the
Saint Louis University Libraries Catalog / MOBIUS library catalog, bibliographic utilities,
and many databases.

The Catalog Unit, located on Level One, catalogs and processes materials in all languages and formats. Its goal is to ensure the integrity of the Library's catalog in order to make the collections maximally accessible to students, researchers, and the general public.

The Serials Unit, located on Level One, handles the periodicals and
newspapers received by Pius Library. In addition, there is a serials
public service desk located on Level Two of Pius that can be reached at (314)
977-3110.

The Acquisitions Unit, located on Level One, orders and processes new
materials for the Library.
