Student-to-Student: Library News

Need a Job?
It is every student’s worst nightmare: your pockets are empty, the credit card is maxed out, your checking account balance is zero, and Mom and Dad tell you they will not be sending any more money, unless it’s actually for something you need...like food. You suddenly realize the awful truth - you going to have to get a job.
Well you’re in luck! Pius Library employs student workers in several departments, such as reference, circulation and serials. The pay is decent and you get to work in a calm and quiet atmosphere. Even better, you can tailor your work schedule around classes and you don’t need a car to get to work. To make things even easier, you can now apply for one of these coveted positions online. Just go to www.slu.edu/libraries/pius/position/position.html and follow the directions for the student employment application. The application will be reviewed and you will be notified when a position becomes available.
And what if the library just isn’t your thing? Well, too good to work with me and a bunch of really awesome people or are all positions taken? To assist in your job search, the reference librarians at Pius have created a resource guide for job hunting. The guide lists books, encyclopedias, and web sites to help you with everything, such as internships, writing cover letters, interviewing, and even locating scholarships. The guide can be found at www.slu.edu/libraries/pius/resguides/jobhunting.html. Now, the guide can’t tell you what to say in your interview word-for-word, but it can tell you what you ought to say and how to say it.
So, let’s sum up. If you need or want a job on campus that’s fun, fulfilling, and works just as much for you as it does for us, why not consider Pius Library? Me? I work to feed my addiction to World of Warcraft and orange Skittles. Ooo. And now I think I have to go…just check out the websites.
