     Update frequency varies by file.  Access to U.S. legislative information including  Congressional Information Service (CIS) indexing and abstracting from 1970- ; CIS Legislative Histories from 1970- ; full text of Congressional Record from 1985- , National Journal from 1977-, Congress Daily from 1991- , Federal Register from 1980- , current Code of Federal Regulations from 1989- , current United States Code, and Public Laws from 1988- .  In addition, there is a bill tracking file from 1989- , full text for bills from 1989- , and full text for Congressional Hearings (Part A, 18 -------), as well as selected committee prints, hot bills and topics, congressional testimony, committee reports, House and Senate documents, voting records in Congress, and member information including financial disclosures and campaign contributions.

     Updated monthly.  This bibliographic database provides abstracts of articles from hundreds of periodicals published worldwide, as well as books, technical reports, and dissertations.  Subjects covered include child language acquisition, speech and hearing, artificial intelligence, dialectology, bilingualism, and computational and mathematical linguistics.

PAIS International.  1972- .  CSA.  In-library and remote access. 
     Updated monthly.  Electronic version of PAIS International in Print below.  Produced by the Public Affairs Information Service, this database indexes and abstracts books, journal articles, conference proceedings, reports, pamphlets, and government documents covering topics that are or may become the subject of legislation.  Subjects areas include economic, political, and social issues, public administration, law, business, and political science.  Over 1,600 journals published worldwide in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish are selectively indexed each year.

PAIS International in Print (Public Affairs Information Service).  1991-1998.  Monthly.  PAIS Bulletin.  1934-1990.

Periodicals Index Online & Periodicals Archive Online.  1665-1995. ProQuest/Chadwyck-Healey.  In-library and remote access.
     Updated four times a year.  Periodicals Index Online (PIO) indexes the articles in over 4,000 periodicals in the humanities and social sciences from their first issues to 1995.  As of December 2005, over 500 journal titles are at least partially available in full text in the complementary database, Periodicals Archive Online (PAO).  The focus is on 20th century periodicals.  However, periodicals in the 20th century that extend back into the 17th, 18th, & 19th centuries are indexed from their earliest volumes.  The scope is worldwide and includes journals in English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, and other Western languages.

PsycINFO.  1967- .  Ovid.  In-library and remote access.
    Updated monthly.  Electronic version of Psychological Abstracts below.   Indexes literature in psychology journals, books and chapters of books.  Journal coverage begins 1967.  Books and chapters of books coverage begins 1987.  Also includes Historic PsycINFO, 1872-1966.

Saint Louis Post-Dispatch.  1989- .  NewsBank.  In-library and remote access.
     Updated daily.  Access to archival articles back to 1989.  Go to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Web site for late-breaking news and articles available only on their Web site.  Another point of access for this newspaper is Academic Universe.

Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI).

This database provides author and subject indexing for articles published worldwide in social science journals.  It also supports citation indexing, which establishes links between cited articles and the more recent publications in which they are cited.

Sociological Abstracts .  1963- .  CSA.  In-library and remote access. 
     Updated monthly.  This database abstracts and indexes the international literature in sociology and related social and behavioral science disciplines.  It provides abstracts of journal articles and citations to book reviews from over 1,800 serials, and also provides abstracts of books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers. Journal records added since 1973 article abstracts.  Many records from key sociology journals published since 2001 also include the references cited in the bibliography of the source article.  Each individual reference may also have links to an abstract and/or to other papers that cite that reference.

FULL-TEXT JOURNALS & JOURNAL INFORMATION


Pius Library maintains a significant collection of journals for education.  They can be found in several ways.

  • Search the SLU Libraries Catalog by Journal Title - journals, magazines, newspapers... to find print and most electronically available journals.
  • Search Saint Louis University's E-Journal Portal by journal title to find electronic journals available to Saint Louis University students, faculty, and staff.
  • Browse or search one or more of the following
  • JSTOR, an electronic journal archive with over 600 titles from many disciplines including education.
  • Project MUSE, a current electronic journal resource with over 200 titles from many disciplines including education.
  • PsycARTICLES, all journals published by the American Psychological Association (APA), the APA Educational Publishing Foundation, the Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe Publishing Group. Most journals now go back Volume 1, Issue 1, with the earliest journal being Psychological Review, which was started in 1894

Bibliographies can be a great source for books, book chapters, articles, and other items written about a topic.  To find out if Pius Library owns a bibliography on your topic, search the Saint Louis Univeristy Library Catalog by keyword(s) and the word bibliography.  When searching by keyword, do not use AND or quotation marks so the system will automatically return your search results in relevance ranked order.
