PERIODICAL INDEXES

Many indexes for periodicals and other publication types are available at Pius Library or through the Library Web site. The coverage of some indexes is general and interdisciplinary; other indexes are subject-specific. Virtually all indexing services include abstracts, or summaries, of the indexed publications. A growing number of indexes contain the full-text or even the full-image of the source material itself.

Access to the following resources is available to anyone in Pius Library. "In-library access" means access is available in the Reference Department. Those resources identified as being available via "remote access" are on the Web.

Off-campus access: Remote access to the databases below is restricted to current SLU students, faculty, and staff through the SLU Proxy Access.  For more information on off-campus access to library resources go to http://www.slu.edu/libraries/pius/libinfo/offcamp.html

LIBRARY CATALOGS

Search the Saint Louis University Libraries Catalog, the SLU electronic library catalog, and MOBIUS, the Missouri Union Catalog, by author, title, keywords, author-title, subject, etc.  Use in the library or by remote access.  The Saint Louis University Libraries Catalog is available from Pius Library's Home Page.  Tip:  Always search Saint Louis University first.  If needed item(s) is/are not found, extend the search to MOBIUS.

If you start with a keyword, title, or author search, look at the subject headings listed for each catalog record. Additional searches using Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) will locate additional materials. Subheadings may be added to the main subject headings to make your search more specific. For example:

Family violence--Bibliography
Family violence--Case studies
Family violence--Government policy
Family violence--Law and legislation

Family violence--Missouri--St. Louis
Family violence--Prevention
Family violence--Statistics
Family violence--Treatment

Most materials in Pius Library--the notable exception being U.S. government documents--are shelved in the collection by Library of Congress (LC) call number. Consult the Location Guide to identify where different call number ranges are located in Pius Library.

OTHER LIBRARIES

The Missouri Institute of Mental Health Library (http://mimh.library.net) is a local library that collects materials related to psychiatry, psychology, psychiatric nursing, alcohol and drug abuse, developmental disabilities, mental health policy, and outcomes evaluation.
