Library Instruction
Library instruction explores research strategies and enables students and faculty to evaluate resources and contend with evolving information technologies.  Please contact your liaison librarian at least two weeks in advance to allow adequate preparation time.

Library instruction may include

  • Introduction to disciplinary research strategies
  • Overview of the literature of a discipline
  • Instruction in the use of specific reference tools
  • Library tours
  • Internet resources by discipline
  • Evaluation of information resources

Additional support for classes is also available:

  • Assistance with the design of library projects or assignments
  • Preparation of instructional guides
  • Identification of information resources that support instruction

Research Assistance Program (RAP)

The purpose of the RAP is to teach students and faculty how to identify and use a variety of library resources (including electronic resources) relevant to particular research needs.  Liaison librarians are available by appointment for individual consultations, or RAP sessions, to provide this in-depth research assistance.  This service is available to Saint Louis University students, faculty, and staff working on research projects.

The RAP is not a substitute for formal course-related or course-integrated library instruction.  Faculty members are encouraged to contact their department's liaison librarian to schedule instructional sessions, discuss library assignments, and arrange for instructional support materials.

To schedule a RAP, students and faculty should call or e-mail his/her liaison librarian or stop by or call the reference desk, at 977-3103.
