Pray: Prayer and Worship

Prayer and worship are central elements of any faith. For Catholics, the celebration of the Eucharist is the source and summit of the community’s life and mission.

Ash Wednesday services

Students, faculty and staff are all invited to attend any of the available Ash Wednesday Lenten services that are offered around the University.

In addition to providing opportunities for Catholic Mass and other communal prayer, Saint Louis University’s Department of Campus Ministry connects students of different faith traditions to vibrant congregations across the St. Louis area.

Liturgy Schedule

St. Francis Xavier College Church serves as a worship space for both the University and a parish community. The parish is shepherded by Dan White, S.J. The campus ministry staff and parish staff work in tandem to provide worship and faith formation.

Liturgical Ministries

At Saint Louis University, we invite everyone to fully participate in the Liturgies of the Word and Eucharist. At SLU, student servers, lectors, extraordinary ministers of holy Communion and hospitality ministers support the 4:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Sunday Masses.

Training programs are offered during the fall semester. We do require a reorientation for those who have been trained at their home parishes and dioceses. Contact Erin Schmidt at for more information.

Sunday Mass Choir

Cantors, singers and instrumentalists are wanted for Sunday Masses and other liturgical services that are supported by a mix of mainstream, traditional and contemporary liturgical music led by volunteer student singers and instrumentalists.

When school is in session, a small ensemble leads the music for the 4:30 p.m. Sunday Mass, and a large choir and orchestra leads the assembly for the 9 p.m. Sunday Mass. The choir rehearses each Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in College Church. The orchestra rehearses at 7:30 p.m. on Sundays. Contact Sean Dineen at for more information.

Upper Room

Lift your spirit alongside other faithful Billikens during praise services in the "Upper Room" of Pruellage Hall Chapel every Monday at 9 p.m. Contemporary music, heart-changing preaching and Eucharistic adoration make for an exhilarating prayer experience. Come worship and pray as the body of Christ.

If you are a vocalist or instrumentalist and interested in leading worship, contact Bryan Melcher at for information about a casual audition.

Greeks Rooted in Prayer

Members of sororities and fraternities at SLU come together once a week to deepen their faith lives and their fellowship through reflection, discussion and prayer. Join us  every Wednesday from 8:30-9:30 p.m. in the lounge of the Faith and Justice Collaborative (Wuller Hall, 2nd floor). Contact Robby Francis at for more information.

Taizé Prayer

The Taizé community gathers every Tuesday from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in College Church. Join us for ecumenical, contemplative prayer based on the music and style of the Community of Taizé. The music emphasizes simple phrases usually lines from Psalms or other pieces of Scripture repeated and sometimes also sung in canon. Contact Jen Petruso  at for more information.
