University Health Plan Enrollment/Waivers

Saint Louis University requires all full-time undergraduate, graduate and professional students, including medical students, to have basic health insurance. Coverage is also offered to medical residents, subspecialty residents, fellows and their dependents.

You may waive University Health Plan coverage only if you are already actively covered by another health insurance plan. If you do not waive coverage by the end of the open enrollment period each fall and spring, you will be automatically enrolled and related charges will be billed to your student account.

In most cases, summer coverage is optional. If you are a student-athlete participating in a NCAA sport, contact the Department of Athletics to determine if you are required to have summer coverage.

Exceptions

Distance, continuing education and School for Professional Studies students are excluded from the requirement.

Students participating in a Saint Louis University study abroad program are required to enroll in either the International Insurance Plan or Sanitas Plan provided through Saint Louis University.

Waiving Coverage

Access the secure Aetna Student Health online screening, where you will be required to enter details regarding your non-UHP coverage.

Waiver Screening

Please note: If you are not registered for classes, you will not be able to waive online.

Enrolling or Making Changes to Plan Elections

You and your dependent(s) must enroll or request changes to plan elections (e.g. drop/waive coverage) within 31 days of admission to a University program, during an open enrollment period or during a special enrollment period.

To enroll during an open enrollment period, you will access Aetna Student Health’s secure online enrollment screening. Manual enrollment may also be available.

Enroll Now

Your eligibility for enrollment is based on your current registration status. Enrollment may be completed in advance of open enrollment periods, as long as you have already registered for classes.

Special Enrollment Periods

Certain qualifying life events may mean that you or a dependent are eligible to enroll in the UHP outside of the open enrollment period. Learn more about special enrollment periods.

Continuation Coverage

Certain qualifying events may mean you are eligible for a temporary extension of your UHP enrollment when your coverage would otherwise end. See the election form below for important details, requirements and rates.
