Pasting Text into the Body Copy Field

If you are pasting text from any program other than the CMS (e.g. other web pages, MS Word), you must first "scrub" it; this will remove formatting and coding that will override the standard stylesheet and may create unexpected (and unwelcome!) results on your published web page. You can "scrub" the content in one of two ways: by using a plain text editor (Notepad) or by relying on the "Remove formatting" button in the Body Copy field.

Please note: You may want to scrub a whole web page or document at one time. Then, you can cut and paste what you need from there to other CMS pages without having to scrub each piece individually.

To use a plain text editor (Notepad):

  1. Open Notepad on your computer. (From the Start button: Start > Run, type "Notepad.")
  2. Open the existing Web page or file that you want to copy from, then select the text to be copied by:
    • Dragging your cursor to select everything you want.
    • Triple-clicking to select a paragraph. OR
    • Hitting CTRL+A to select everything in the active window.
  3. Copy the text by:
    • Right-clicking and selecting "Copy."
    • Using the Edit > Copy toolbar command (or the equivalent in your active program). OR
    • Hitting CTRL+C.
  4. Paste the text into Notepad by switching to the Notepad window and:
    • Right-clicking and selecting "Paste."
    • Using the Edit > Paste toolbar command. OR
    • Hitting CTRL+V.
  5. Select all text in Notepad by:
    • Right-clicking and selecting "Select All."
    • Using the Edit > Select All toolbar command. OR
    • Hitting CTRL+A.
  6. Cut the text from Notepad by:
    • Right-clicking and selecting "Cut."
    • Using the Edit > Cut toolbar command. OR
    • Hitting CTRL+X.
  7. Paste the text into the CMS by switching to the CMS window, clicking in the Body Copy field and:
    • Right-clicking and selecting "Paste", then CTRL+V, then Insert" OR
    • Hitting CTRL+V twice, then "Insert".
  8. Proof your text to make sure it appears as you want it to. As needed, reformat the text and recreate any links that were stripped away.

To use the "Remove formatting" button in the Body Copy field: Highlight all of the Body Copy text, then click on the "Remove formatting" button in the Body Copy toolbar. As needed, reformat the text and recreate any links that were stripped away.
