Prepare for Medical Emergencies

Workplace medical emergencies vary greatly depending on the disaster, type of job and worksite. Regardless of your type of work, these steps will give you the upper hand in responding to a medical emergency:

  • Employees should take basic First Aid and AED/CPR training when offered.
  • Departments should have an OSHA approved First Aid Kit with supplies in stock and easily accessible. Supervisors should ensure the employees know there is a kit available and where it is located.
  • Supervisors should ensure that the kit is probably stocked.
  • Employees may want to consider talking to their managers about medical conditions that may require support or special care in an emergency.
  • Employees should keep their emergency contact information on file and up-to-date in the Banner System. Emergency contact information and vital records should also be available at an off-site location.
