Brief Bio
Doug Pettinelli is Director of Clinical Services and an Associate Professor in the Medical Family Therapy Program. He is a Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and a Licensed Psychologist. He was a collaborator with the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in creating the Saint Louis University International Adoption Clinic.
He has been involved in research on child and family adjustment in internationally adopted families, the transition to adulthood for developmentally challenged individuals and their families, the impact of mental health consultation to early childhood centers, and couples therapy process. He is also interested in issues effecting "Self of the Therapist", gender and brain development, attachment processes, affect regulation, sibling relationships, and shame in couple and family therapy. He was an adjunct professor at Saint Louis University from 1981-2004, while maintaining a full time practice in child and family therapy. In 2004, he became a full time faculty member. He is a consultant to community agencies serving children and a frequent speaker to parents and teachers regarding issues of child and family development. 
On a personal level, he is a father of five and grandfather of nine. He loves to golf, fish, listen to music and spend time with his family.
