This online course is designed to provide an introduction to the techniques, methods, and tools used for research in the health sciences. Students will obtain an understanding of the research process and scientific method, specific study designs, and methods for data collection and analysis.
Upon completion of the course students will:
1. Understand the basics of health sciences research including study design, measurement, data collection, data management and analysis, and interpretation and dissemination.
2. Understand how research is used in evidence based practice.
3. Understand the difference between scientific inquiry and other ways of knowing.
4. Be able to frame empirically answerable questions, locate data relevant to those questions, critically evaluate such data, and apply to practice situations.
