April is National Poetry Month, and to celebrate SLU professors Paul Acker, Ph.D, Devin Johnston, Ph.D., and Vincent Casaregola, Ph.D., and 2011 graduate Matt Freeman read some of their poetry to eighth grade students at an event hosted by Grand Center Arts Academy.
In addition to learning proper audience etiquette, students at the Academy have explored how to craft and analyze poetry.
"We are very grateful to the SLU professors for sharing their gifts with our students," said Dan Rubright, director of Arts and Community Partnerships at the school explained. "I think we opened some eyes today about what poetry is about and can be."
Opened in 2010, Grand Center Arts Academy serves students in grades six through nine and provides world-class training in music, theater, visual arts and dance as part of a rigorous academic program. Saint Louis University serves as the sponsor of Grand Center, providing both academic and financial oversight as well as collaborative research and learning opportunities for faculty and staff.
