The men's basketball team posted a 62-56 win over No. 25 VCU on Sunday, making them the Atlantic 10 Tournament champions and earning them a spot in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

Kwamain Mitchell scored 19 points, including a huge 3-pointer with the shot clock winding down, and tournament MVP Dwayne Evans added 16 to lead No. 16 SLU to its first Atlantic 10 tourney title.

The veteran Billikens stayed just poised enough against the Rams' frenetic defensive pressure and a hostile crowd to win only the second conference tournament crown in school history.

The No. 4-seed Billikens will take on New Mexico State at 1:10 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in San Jose, Calif and the game will be broadcast on TNT. They are one of only five teams from the Atlantic 10 conference to continue on to the NCAA championship.

Higher purpose. Greater good.
