University to Kick Off 'Celebrate Generosity Week'
The inaugural event will recognize and thank alumni, faculty, students and staff who have donated to SLU.
Every gift counts.
Whether someone makes a gift of $20 or $1,000, the generosity of Saint Louis University's donors provides endless opportunities for its students.
"Because people continue to give to SLU, our students continue to learn, live and pray in a first-rate environment," said Sheila Manion, associate vice president for University Development.
To recognize the continued support of the University's donors — alumni, faculty, staff and students — SLU will hold its inaugural Celebrate Generosity week, Sunday through Friday, Feb. 24-March 1. The Office of Giving Programs is sponsoring the week.
As a kick-off to the week, students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a cookie reception with the Jesuits in the ballroom of St. Francis Xavier College Church immediately following Sunday's 9 p.m. Mass.
Then starting at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, students, staff and the Billiken will hit the campus running to hand out balloons and thank-you cards to all faculty and staff donors. If someone is not in their office when the delivery is made, the balloon and card will be safely tied to a doorknob or left in a mailbox.
"We want to show our appreciation, so these small tokens are meant to acknowledge how much we truly value everyone's gift," Manion said.
Throughout the week, the Office of Development Marketing and Stewardship will also host a series of "Thankathons." Scholarship recipients have been asked to stop by one of these events to complete hand-written thank-you notes to the donors who made their scholarships possible.
"We are planning on making this an annual event to provide our scholarship donors with personalized messages from the students who are benefitting from their generosity," said Kris Siebert, marketing and stewardship coordinator. "It means so much to our donors to see how their gifts are truly helping SLU students."
On Wednesday, students and staff will be hanging out in the quad to pass out bags of popcorn between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to help tame everyone's mid-afternoon munchies.
Thursday morning faculty, staff and student donors will start their day off with an extra perk — a complimentary coffee and cocoa bar stocked with all of the fixings. From 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., donors can stop by a coffee bar near the quad or a coffee bar just south of the Hickory garages along the walkway on the Health Sciences Center.
On Friday, the Class Legacy Program will sponsor the second annual Icing on the Cake Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the quad. Students are invited to sign an oversized thank-you card, which will be displayed at future alumni and donor events. As a way of thanking students for their help, each signer will receive a piece of cake. Students will also have a chance to write a personal thank-you email or record a thank-you video message.
Finally, as a salute to SLU's graduating seniors, all senior donors are invited to a Happy Hour at Humphrey's from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday evening. Those in attendance must have made a minimum gift of $20 this year.
