New Book Explores College Church Stained Glass

Saints in Glass, a 100-page exploration of the stained glass featured in St. Francis Xavier College Church, is on sale now and ready for the Christmas season.

Produced by J.J. Mueller, S.J., and Tom Rochford, S.J., the book teaches readers how to decipher the stories and the symbols hidden in the ornate glass art in the College Church nave. Photos of the glass and a feature on Mueller was previously published in the fall 2010 edition of Universitas.

"The photos are just gorgeous," Mueller said. "No one's ever seen these photos before."

Mueller is an associate professor of theological studies at Saint Louis University, and Rochford is assistant to the provincial for communication for the Jesuits of the Missouri Province.

The books will sale for $35 a piece. All proceeds will benefit the College Church.

The church is also selling blank card sets with photographs of the stained glass windows. Each card set includes 12 designs and costs $10. Each card features an image of a church window with information about the life of the Jesuit saint depicted printed on the back.
