University Response to Off-Campus Apartment Fire
Multiple departments at Saint Louis University are working to assist any members of the SLU community who may have been displaced by a fire at an off-campus apartment complex Tuesday night. The University is relieved that no one was injured during the incident.
Important Update: Individuals affected by the fire are urged to visit the American Red Cross at 4050 Lindell Blvd. today to meet with disaster relief case workers for assistance. For more information, call 314-516-2800. (You can also reach the Red Cross by calling 314-516-2700 until 5 p.m. each day. Select Option 2 for "Disaster Services.")
Below is a summary of what the University is doing to help and contact information for those who may need assistance.
Temporary Housing: Victims of the fire with a University affiliation (students, employees or alumni) who need temporary housing can call Housing and Residence Life at 314-977-2811.
International Services: International students and scholars can call International Services at 314-977-2318 to get help with lost documentation or making contact with their embassies or consulates.
Emotional Support: Students who need emotional support are encouraged to call Student Health and Counseling at 314-977-2323 or Campus Ministry at 314-977-2425. Employees (faculty or staff) should contact Human Resources 314-977-2360 for information about the Employee Assistance Program.
SLU IDs: Parking and Card Services will provide replacement SLU IDs at no charge. For more information, call 314-977-3471.Persons displaced by this incident can show a SLU ID at a local Department of Motor Vehicles office to obtain a replacement driver's license or identification card.
Temporary Parking: Displaced students or employees should contact Parking and Card Services at 314-977-3471 for assistance.
Textbook Loans: The SLU Bookstore will loan textbooks to students who are registered for summer classes, as well as provide notebooks, pens and related supplies for free.
Donations: The Center for Service and Community Engagement is collecting donated items (clothing, toiletries, etc.) for the SLU community members affected by the fire. For more information, call 314-977-4105. Monetary donations are being accepted by the Red Cross (see below).
Additional Red Cross Assistance: The Red Cross is providing vouchers for food, clothing, and other needed items at its 4050 Lindell Blvd. location today. Non-SLU community members are encouraged to visit the distribution site for assistance or to call 314-516-2800. (You can also reach the Red Cross at 314-516-2700 until 5:00 PM each day, and select option 2 for "Disaster Services.")
