Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology has recently honored Jesuit and long-time aviation professor James Sebesta, S.J., with the creation of an endowed scholarship. The James Sebesta, S.J., Endowed Scholarship was established to help students with costs associated with flight fees.
Sebesta and the new fund were celebrated Sept. 28 at a fundraising dinner to support the new scholarship and other scholarships offered by Parks College. Two current Parks College scholarship recipients also addressed the crowd with a heart felt account of how much they appreciate the support.
"The evening with Father Jim was a most fitting tribute to one of our finest faculty members," said Stephen Belt, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Aviation Science. "And it was great to meet the friends and family members of the other (scholarship) honorees. Clearly, Parks College has touched many lives and their desire to give back to the students of the future is inspiring."
Sebesta has been with SLU and Parks College since 1994. He's worked in aviation since the age of 14, and as a Jesuit, he was assigned to Kaltag, Alaska, where he served at the flying operations base for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and transported the bishop of the Fairbanks diocese.
