The Office of Graduate Education has announced the 2012-13 recipients of the Edward L. and Rhelda Marbry Morgan, Ph.D. Endowed Book Fund Award. The four students are Travis Pashak, a doctoral student in clinical psychology; Marilynn Pathiyil, a master's student in communication sciences and disorders; Delores Quasie Wood, a master's student in epidemiology in the School of Public Health; and Lauren Rea Preston, a doctoral student in educational studies, curriculum and instruction. The Morgan Fund provides students $750 scholarships to assist with textbook and other class or research related expenses.

The Morgan Book Fund Award was established in memory of Rhelda Marbry Morgan, Ph.D., by her husband Edward L. Morgan and daughter Tawanna. Morgan's doctorate in American Studies was awarded posthumously in 1996. Morgan taught in the St. Louis public schools for 24 years, with her career beginning at Walbridge Elementary School. She later taught at Ford Middle School and served as head of the English and foreign languages department at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School. She was teaching American literature at Soldan International Studies High School and served as an adjunct at Harris-Stowe and a lecturer at Principia College at the time of her death. A native of St. Louis, Morgan received her undergraduate degree from Harris-Stowe and her master's from Webster University.

Students who apply for the Morgan Award are asked to read Morgan's biography and write an essay commenting on their view of Morgan and her life's work and explain how they are committed to her ideals and values. Information about the Morgan Book Award can be found on the Office of Graduate Education's website.
