University Exceeds Expectations in 2015 RecycleMania
Nearly 400,000 Pounds Diverted from Landfills
Saint Louis University recently completed the annual RecycleMania competition, an eight-week, intercollegiate event that brings awareness to campus sustainability and aims to increase recycling. This was SLU's fifth year participating in the 2015 competition, which ran from Feb. 2 to March 29.
SLU collected more than 270,000 pounds this year, improving from last year's 235,135 pounds. The University also competed in the Game Day-Basketball category for the second year. This total includes the amount brought in by the ShredMania event, where members of the SLU community could bring paper to be shredded; ShredMania collected nearly 27,000 pounds of paper alone, a 150 percent increase over last year's total of 10,500 pounds!
Finally, SLU collected more than 127,000 pounds of electronics in its e-waste drive, placing the University third out of 64 universities competing in the electronics category.
This brings the grand total – RecycleMania, ShredMania and E-Waste – to nearly 400,000 pounds diverted from landfills!
Facilities Services thanks Cintas and MRC for their assistance during the ShredMania and e-waste drive, as well as all other sponsors, partners, volunteers, promoters and active recyclers who helped make this year's RecycleMania competition a success.
