University Celebrates Mass of the Holy Spirit
The annual event drew hundreds to St. Francis Xavier College Church to ask God's blessings for the new academic year.
Hundreds in the Saint Louis University community came out to St. Francis Xavier College Church on Aug. 29 to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit. The Mass, celebrated each year during the first week of classes, asks for God's blessing on the University's learning, studying and research.
This year's homily was given by Kevin Cullen, S.J., assistant for higher education and province treasurer for the Missouri Province of the Society of Jesus.
"I know that when two or three gather and call upon the Holy Spirit, truly remarkable things happen," said Cullen. "We discover a higher purpose that takes us beyond ourselves to a greater good."
