Saint Louis University wrapped up its third year of RecycleMania competition, celebrating improvements in waste diversion and e-waste collection. Throughout the eight weeks of RecycleMania, SLU diverted 202,321 pounds of single-stream recycling and 68,308 pounds of e-waste recycling from landfills.

SLU's fourth place ranking in the E-waste Competition marks its most notable accomplishment; the University collected more e-waste than 75 of the 78 other universities that participated in this event. SLU also improved its recycling rate to 24.16 percent, up 3.08 percent from 2012.

As part of RecycleMania 2013, Facilities Services also sponsored "Adopt-A-Spot," a new competition to promote single-stream recycling. The Department of Biology earned the grand prize in the competition for their successful campaign in Macelwane Hall, while a contingent from the Just Earth club achieved second prize through their efforts at Au Bon Pain. More details about each team's strategies and impact can be reviewed online.

RecycleMania featured Saint Louis University in its RecycleMania Bulletin to celebrate the creativity of Adopt-A-Spot and share the concept with other schools who may want to replicate the promotion at their own campuses.

Facilities Services looks forward to continued accomplishments with its recycling program and SLU's contributions to next season's Recyclemania competition.
