The Office of Graduate Education hosted the second annual Program G.R.A.D. (Graduate Recruitment for Achieving Diversity) March 26-29.
Program G.R.A.D. is a recruitment weekend to identify underrepresented college juniors who are interested in attending graduate school. Students are invited to campus for a workshop and to visit with graduate programs. The purpose of the program is to increase diversity among the graduate student population at Saint Louis University.
Program G.R.A.D. partnered with College Bound in St. Louis, AJCU graduate deans, historically black colleges and universities and area colleges to invite students to come for this all-expense paid recruitment weekend.
Twenty-five students attended this year's program representing the following colleges and universities: LeMoyne-Owen College, Xavier University of Louisiana, Hampton University, John Carroll University, Lehigh University, University of Missouri-St. Louis and Fontbonne University.
Students expressed interested in a variety of graduate programs at Saint Louis University from accounting to medicine. Along with learning about SLU graduate programs, Program G.R.A.D. scholars participated in a variety of panels and workshops covering topics such as networking, GRE prep, application personal statements and post-baccalaureate funding opportunities. Current graduate students volunteered during the recruitment weekend to fellowship with students and give them advice about SLU and graduate school.
Many thanks to the graduate faculty and current graduate students that assisted with Program G.R.A.D. 2014. This year's event was a success, and Program G.R.A.D. Scholars are already submitting applications for admission to join the Saint Louis University community.
SLU continues it's celebration of "Graduate Education Week" April 5-12. The Department of Graduate Education will feature graduate programs, initiatives and students throughout the week. Visit the Missouri Graduate Education Week website to learn more.
