A group of 18 faculty and students from the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences participated in Operation Clean Stream on Aug. 23.

The event, organized by The Open Space Council for the St. Louis Region, seeks to remove trash from the Meramec River watershed. Operation Clean Stream has been taking place since 1967 and coordinates several teams of volunteers throughout the St. Louis area.

The SLU group worked at Route 66 State Park, near Eureka, and collected six large bags of garbage that would otherwise be carried into the Meramec River during large rain events.

Higher purpose. Greater good.
