Saint Louis University was recognized as a 2012 Tree Campus by the National Arbor Day Foundation in February 2013. Launched in 2008, the national program honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.
SLU became the one of five institutions in Missouri, and only the second Jesuit institution to earn the distinction.
As part of the re-certification process for 2013, Saint Louis University held a planted trees around Clemens Hall Nov. 16. Volunteers came out to learn about the proper planting techniques from representatives of the Campus Tree Advisory Team and to help Grounds staff install 11 trees. All participants received a certificate of participation for attending the event.
