Weekly Innovation Challenge Travels to Ritenour High School

Six engineering students from the KEEN program at Parks Colleges of Engineering, Aviation and Technology brought the weekly innovation challenge to Ritenour High School Nov. 6.

More than 100 students enrolled in "Project Lead the Way" engineering courses participated in three challenges that focused on teamwork, communication and creative skills. The three challenges included the Spaghetti Challenge, in which participants were challenged to build the tallest structure out of dry spaghetti; the Raft Challenge, in which students designed and constructed a raft that holds an item and travels 2.5 feet; and the Queen Bee Challenge, where students had to build the tallest tower with the materials given while one teammate, the queen bee, was blindfolded.

Ritenour was the first high school to host the weekly innovation challenge.

The weekly innovation challenge is part of the initiative outreach program sponsored by the Kern Entrepreneurship Education Network.
