Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business Names New Associate Dean

Heather Bednarek, Ph.D., has been named the new associate dean of the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business. She assumed her new role July 1.

Heather BednarekIn addition to serving as associate dean, Bednarek is an associate professor in economics and previously served as the chair of the department of economics from 2011 to 2016. She has been a faculty member at Saint Louis University for 15 years.

In this role, Bednarek will be responsible for overseeing undergraduate and graduate academic programs.

“Dr. Bednarek will bring tremendous experience and insight as associate dean,” said Mark Higgins, Ph.D., dean of the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business. “She is respected among her peers and has the skills to help advance our undergraduate and graduate programs.”

Prior to joining the economics department, Bednarek served as a researcher at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality in Washington, D.C. Her primary research interests are in health economics and policy, including the economics of cancer and its impact on employment, obesity and financing of public health insurance. She earned a Ph.D. in economics from Michigan State University in 1999.

Mark Arnold, Ph.D., previously held the senior associate dean position, and is now the chair of the marketing department.
