Saint Louis University Announces Three New Trustees

​​Saint Louis University has added three new members to its Board of Trustees. Two former Jesuit university presidents, Michael C. McFarland, S.J., and Stephen A. Privett, S.J., as well as longtime Enterprise executive Greg Stubblefield have been elected by the board and begin their three-year terms as trustees immediately.

​"I have had the pleasure of knowing Father Privett and Father McFarland since I first became president at a Jesuit institution in 2008," said SLU President Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D. "These men are highly respected individuals who have displayed exceptional expertise and wisdom in their respective leadership of fine Jesuit institutions of higher learning. They will bring informed perspectives on enhancing academic excellence and rigor within the Jesuit tradition to our board."

"Greg Stubblefield offers expansive insights into leading and growing major, complex organizations. His experience developing strategic plans and seeing them to fruition will be instrumental to the University in the coming years," Pestello continued.

"Each of these new trustees unequivocally advanced their respective organizations. Their wisdom and experience will be paramount to SLU at this dynamic time in our history."

Michael C. McFarland, S.J.

Michael C. McFarland, S.J., is the treasurer of the USA Northeast Province of the Society of Jesus and the former president of the College of Holy Cross. Prior to his appointment at Holy Cross, McFarland was dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Gonzaga University and an associate professor of computer science at Boston College.

In addition to his academic endeavors, Fr. McFarland has been involved in working with poor communities, including in the Southwest with Native Americans, Appalachia, and inner-city neighborhoods and parishes. He is a graduate of Cornell University, Carnegie Mellon University and the Weston School of Theology.

Stephen A. Privett, S.J.

Stephen A. Privett, S.J., is the chancellor and former president of the University of San Francisco. He also serves as the assistant to higher education and for social ministries to the provincial superiors of the California and Oregon Jesuit provinces. Prior to his appointment at USF, he served as provost and academic vice president at Santa Clara University.

Privett serves on the boards of the Ignatian Solidarity Network, the National Catholic Reporter, the National Jesuit Committee on Investment Responsibility and Jesuit Commons: Higher Education at the Margins. He is a graduate of the Catholic University of America, the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley and Gonzaga University.

Greg Stubblefield

Greg Stubblefield is executive vice president and chief strategy officer for Enterprise Holdings Inc. and serves on the company's corporate board. He began his professional career as an Enterprise Rent-A-Car management trainee in 1982, and he has held numerous leadership roles at the global firm.

A recognized leader in the travel industry, Stubblefield serves on the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board. He also has taken leadership roles with various civic and community organizations, including the United Way, the Urban League and Teach for America, among others. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.
