SLU Service Clocks Hits 150 Years

Thanks to volunteers who have given their time on campus, in St. Louis and across the world, Saint Louis University’s 200-Years-in-One service clock has reached 150 years — marking 1.3 million hours of assistance logged in just nine months.

SLU 200 Years in One Clock

SLU's 200 Years in One Clock displays 150 years.

The news comes the same week the Princeton Review named SLU first in the country for engagement in community service and among the best in the nation in impact, a ranking that considers community service opportunities at colleges and universities.

"The response from our SLU community to the 200-year-service challenge continues to be tremendous," said Bobby Wassel, Ph.D.,  assistant director at SLU's Center for Service and Community Engagement. "Seeing students, faculty, staff and alums from across the country and around the globe making a positive difference in the lives of those around them is truly inspiring."

Celebrating 200 Years

Launched in November 2017, the service clock honors SLU’s bicentennial by encouraging participation in a year-long commitment to service. Time spent by students, staff, faculty, alumni, parents and community members volunteering, mentoring and improving the world around them can be logged through the 200-Years-in-One app or online at challenge.slu.edu.

The app archives service projects, offers a themed photo filter for use on social media and powers the 200-Year Clock on campus at the corner of Grand and Lindell boulevards.

In addition to volunteer hours entered by people linked to SLU, several landmark entities in the St. Louis region, including the Saint Louis Zoo and Missouri Botanical Gardens, and area non-profits such as Haven House St. Louis and the Assistance League of St. Louis, are also logging volunteer hours to the clock.
