Center for Vaccine Development Seeks Volunteers
The Saint Louis University Center for Vaccine Development is seeking volunteers 18 to 45 years old for an experimental yellow fever vaccine.
Purpose of study:
Yellow fever virus is spread to people by mosquitoes. There are about 200,000 cases
and 30,000 deaths from yellow fever in Africa and South America each year. Yellow
fever does not occur in the United States at this time, though it has in past centuries.
Currently licensed yellow fever vaccines are based on the live, weakened yellow fever
virus. Yellow fever vaccines must be used with caution in people 60 years of age and
older, and is not recommended for infants less than 9 months of age, or in people
with weakened immune systems. A safer yellow fever vaccine is needed.
This study will test the safety and immune response produced by an experimental yellow
fever vaccine.
About the study:
- To participate, participants must be healthy and 18 to 45 years old.
- There are about 16 visits and about 42 phone calls over approximately 138 months.
- Participants will be compensated $75 for each visit and $10 for each phone call.
