Sharkey Named ‘Hero with a Heart’

Angela M. Sharkey, M.D., associate dean of faculty affairs and professional development and a professor of pediatrics at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, will receive the 2014 Hero with a Heart Award from The Marfan Foundation.

Sharkey, who also is a SLUCare pediatric cardiologist at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, is being honored for her research and clinical care of pediatric patients with Marfan syndrome and related disorders. Marfan syndrome is a life-threatening genetic disorder of the body's connective tissue that affects the heart and blood vessels, the bones and the eyes.
Sharkey will be recognized on March 1 at Heartworks St. Louis, a gala benefit for The Marfan Foundation, which works to advance research, serves as a resource for families and health care providers, and raises public awareness of the disorder.
